Jamaica Association of Principals of Secondary Schools (JAPSS) President Linvern Wright says a huge win coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic is that teachers are far more comfortable using technology and online platforms when teaching.
However, Wright notes a sizable digital divide and knowledge gap among students. Two years later, JAPSS is assessing the damage and benefits caused by the COVID-19 pandemic on the education system. He says the main benefit of the pandemic is that it’s resulted in teachers being more comfortable using technology in teaching. Wright says many teachers were initially reluctant but eventually evolved into technologically savvy educators.
He says principals also reported better results when using technology and online platforms to communicate with parents.
On the other hand, he notes the pandemic has caused a digital divide and knowledge gap.
Meanwhile, Wright says principals and teachers have leaned on each other to cope with the recurring deaths of teachers, adding that they facilitate an open environment to vent and cope with the loss of colleagues and stress of the job. Watch the report below:
