JCF: Pranksters Can Be Charged!

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is again warning content creators to desist from pranking members of the public, advising such actions can have adverse effects on all parties involved.

In recent weeks, several videos have surfaced of young men recording fake robberies at ATMs and accosting civilians in different scenarios. For many Jamaicans, being robbed in broad daylight is a very real possibility. This reality however has not hindered a group of young men who attempted to rob people as a prank for social media content.

The JCF is reminding individuals that this practice is dangerous, inconsiderate, and can constitute an offence in law. Detective Corporal Mullings says other charges may include assault, breach of peace, offences under the Firearms Prohibition, Restriction and Regulation Act 2022, and manslaughter. The police are urging pranksters to desist from partaking in such actions while encouraging victims to make formal statements to facilitate their investigations.
