JLP’s Henriques retains Clarendon Northwest victory – The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) candidate for Clarendon, Northwestern, Phillip Henriques remains the elected member of parliament for the constituency following the ending of a magisterial recount at the Chapleton Family Court on Saturday, September 19.
Henriques defeated the Peoples National Party incumbent Richard Azan by one hundred and thirty nine (139) votes.
The magisterial recount which began on Tuesday ended with Henriques tallying six thousand, seventy-five (6075) votes, Azan securing five thousand nine hundred and thirty-six (5936) votes, and the independent candidate Merrick Cohen getting forty-seven (47) votes.
Henriques says throughout the process he remained confident that he would retain his September 3 victory.
The People’s National Party (PNP) sought a magisterial recount after it emerged that one thousand one hundred and seven ballots were rejected during the preliminary count.
CVM LIVE reached out to Richard Azan, but calls went unanswered.
Henriques margin of victory was initially 83, which means he picked up 56 votes in the process.
There were four other magisterial recounts, one in Manchester central, Westmoreland eastern, St. Ann south eastern and St. Catherine north western in all instances the winners remained the same.
