The President of the Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters Association (JMEA) fears more mass migration will occur until Jamaica gets a grip of its priorities. He also disagreed with suggestions that the reason for the brain drain is due to a lack of patriotism.
Sixty years on and Jamaica remains at a fraction of its full potential. These were the sentiments expressed by the JMEA boss as he reflects on the country’s growth and development since independence. Mr Mahfood insists recent polls highlighting lack of confidence in the security minister and police commissioner added to lack of remorse for the impact of scamming left much to be desired. He says he can understand the continued mass migration of skilled Jamaicans given the state of the country.
He went on to explain that while many Jamaicans are patriotic survival can be difficult when crime and corruption persist. Since July 167 teachers have resigned for work overseas. Watch the report below:
