JPF Dissatisfied with Government’s Treatment of Police

President of the Jamaica Police Federation, (JPF) made damning claims about how police are being treated in the force. He is saying that they are demoralized and snubbed of fair treatment as a result of government actions.

Bold accusations and claims were made by Jamaica Police Federation, (JPF) President, Corporal Rohan James who outlined a slew of grievances he holds on behalf of rank and file officers. He noted that the Government has been very unreasonable, as he claims they have not sought to acknowledge that for 13 years, working overtime, the Government has failed in its application to compensate the rank and file membership.

Speaking during CVM Live’s Panel Discussion on Monday, November 21, he acknowledged the JPF claims, Minister without portfolio in the Ministry of National Security, Matthew Samuda says the police have not been excluded from policy benefits afforded to public servants. He also points to the recent salary and wage increase of 4 percent that the force will benefit from.

Corporal James says the Government has not been listening to the issues of the police and says the four percent increase is inadequate. Minister Samuda recognizes the need for the ministry and the JPF to come to a mutual agreement. Minister Samuda told CVM Live both parties are now in negotiations to address the issues.
