JPS Warns Customers Amid Tropical Storm Grace

As Tropical Storm Grace lingered over the island on Tuesday, August 17, members of the Jamaica Public Service, (JPS) started a preliminary assessment of the damage to the power delivery network. The JPS warned that most customers who were without service on August 17, will remain without power for the night.

In a release from the Jamaica Public Service, it says its power delivery system in particular sections was badly affected, in the parishes of Kingston and St. Andrew, St. Catherine, St. Thomas, Portland, St. Mary, and St. Ann. Director of Corporate Communications at the JPS Winsome Callum says western parishes would have felt the effects as Tropical Storm Grace moved westward.

Ms. Callum adds, the light and power company urges customers to continue to make safety a priority while noting that during a storm it is best to stay indoors to protect oneself from harm. She also notes that it is important to keep far from damaged poles and lines.

The light and power company is also reminding customers to make their own safety a priority and to report outages using the JPS app or website.

In the meantime, Public Relations Manager at the National Water Commission, (NWC) Andrew Cannon also provided an update regarding customers who were also experiencing disruptions in several parishes.

Cannon also highlights some of the areas that have been impacted so far. He says when the tropical storm subsides the NWC will try to restore water as soon as possible.
