JTA Delegates Vote Down Latest Wage Offer

Delegates in the Jamaica Teachers Association, (JTA) are rejoicing following the results of the votes for the new wage offer. More than 500 delegates voted against the government’s offer with a negligible 24 voting to accept it. President of the Jamaica Teachers Association, Lasonja Harrison lamented the challenges faced by teachers. One delegate found the offer to be beneath the teaching professionals.

In February last year, teachers were offered a 4%  wage increase. Since then they have been calling for better wages and greater resources for schools. They voted on the offer at the special delegation conference held at the Wolmers Auditorium in Kingston, Friday.
