The date is set. President of the Jamaica Teachers Association (JTA) La Sonja Harrison says they have received an invitation to return to the negotiating table, with the meeting already scheduled for Tuesday, January 10, 2023. This follows prior meetings with the teacher’s representatives airing the member’s dissatisfaction with payment, and benefits.

Harrison notes the meeting will address these concerns, as she urges teachers to be patient, promising the JTA is working to ensure the best outcome for all categories of educators. And until they receive a favorable outcome, she notes the JTA’s intention to continue being diligent and dedicated to the goal.

In December the government started to implement the public sector compensation review, to make salaries, among other concerns more reasonable for public sector workers. But, the JTA is among the unions which are yet to sign on to the new compensation system.
