Numerous stakeholders fear that with some of the best teachers migrating, the education system will be impacted significantly. Since CVM LIVE broke the story over a week ago, around the imminent mass exodus of teachers, President of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association, (JTA) Winston Smith, is urging the government to prioritize education, before it is far too late.
Smith asserts that due to poor conditions, including, lack of resources or inadequate compensation, it is easier for overseas recruiters to lure Jamaica teachers abroad.
The President underscores that if the government provides proper resources for teachers to work, this will further boost learning and development. Smith says the constant de-rating of teachers will not fix the problem, but will only make matters worse. He adds that instead of criticizing teachers, the parameter under which they’re working must be understood. Watch the report below:
