The President of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) has shed light on the situation, pointing to recent complaints made by teachers regarding their dissatisfaction with compensation packages and the relentless presence of recruiters. These factors have contributed to a rapid surge in teacher resignations, a trend that was, unfortunately, anticipated. President Johnson has pledged that the JTA will closely monitor school operations while awaiting feedback from school principals to gauge the impact of this shortage.
President Johnson candidly admits that the approach of replacing rather than retaining teachers is a practice that needs reconsideration. Many educators do not wish to leave their profession, but the prevailing working conditions have become increasingly challenging and pressing.
