Justice Center Opens In St. Andrew

A first class justice facility.

That is how Justice Minister Delroy Chuck describes the new St. Andrew Justice Centre, which was officially opened on Friday November 1, bringing the total number of parish justice centres in the country to eight.

This is apart of the Ministry’s push to improve the sector through restorative justice and mediation.

The new St. Andrew Justice Centre, located on Hagley Park Road is equipped with offices for restorative justice and child diversion services, victim support as well as office space for the Custos and centre manager.

Other amenities include a reception area, meeting room, kitchen, sick bay and three rest rooms.

Justice Minister Delroy Chuck says the complex will enable easier access to justice services in addition to reducing the the backlog of cases and prevent minor conflicts from going to court.

The new facility materialized through funding of approximately twenty two million dollars provided through an agreement, between the Government and the European Union (EU).

The Hagley Park Road Complex will temporarily house the St. Andrew Justice Centre, as another facility is to be built in Stony Hill at a cost of $160 million.

Minister Chuck says he is working to have a Justice Center in every parish.

The other seven justice centres are located in Manchester, St. Elizabeth, Westmoreland, Trelawny, St. Mary, Portland and St. Ann.
