Employees of the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) dressed as Santa Clause and elves putting a smile on children’s faces in the Corporate Area on Christmas Day.
The recipients are actual customers of the JUTC, students and adults who would often ride the buses prior to the pandemic. However, with the closure of schools, the students and some adults have not seen the staff in months.
The JUTC said its revenues were down by almost 100%. The majority of its ridership, students, and elderly are at home. It’s chartered usually are funerals and other events have been hit hard as large gatherings are prohibited.
However, that did not stop them from giving back. The initiative is in partnership with Sanmerna Foundation, a private sector organization.
The team visited several communities in Maxfield Avenue, Trench Town, Olympic Gardens, Waterhouse which drew passerby and onlookers cheering on the recipients. Approximately 50 people benefited.
