Kenyan Court Declares Rastafarianism A Protected Religion:
A Kenyan court has ordered schools not to expel students with dreadlocks.
The ruling was handed down in the first ever case in the country where according to the judgment “Rastafarianism is a religion which should also be accorded protection”.
The student was told to leave school on January 10 due to her locks. She was ordered to shave her hair before returning. But according to her parents, it’s against her religious beliefs.
The Judge said the stance taken by the school is contrary to the law citing that Article 30 of the Constitution states that every person has the right to freedom of conscience, religion, thought, belief and opinion.
