KSAMC Councillors Focus on Measures for Hurricane Season

KSAMC Councillors Focus on Measures for Hurricane Season – There have been several hurricanes since the start of the season bringing heavy downpours across the island leading to severe flooding in low lying areas and in communities across the corporate area. With this in mind, councillors from the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC)  are making a commitment to do more to protect the most vulnerable.

The Deputy Mayor, Councillor Winston Ennis shared on this at the recent monthly meeting held at the Jamaica Conference Centre.

“We are managing multiple crises as a nation and as a council. We must continue to protect the vulnerable and the indigent,” he said. “We must continue to build and improve infrastructure and we must continue to manage the response to the global pandemic COVID-19.”

Just recently, councillors had toured several communities in the corporate area to assess the damage caused by flooding.

“Our drain cleaning programmes have been proactive in helping to reduce the impact of heavy rains, especially in flood-prone areas. While recent rains have significantly reduced the effects of the drought, we hope that we continue to be spared any natural disasters.”

Adding to this, the Deputy Mayor says councillors must ensure residents abide by protocols in place concerning Covid-19.

“We have seen an increase in the cases across Kingston and St Andrew. As councillors, we must play our part in ensuring that within our divisions the residents abide by the orders of the government.”
