The Prime Minister’s 2022 Labour Day Message maintains that the government is committed to preserving the hard-won rights and liberties of the Jamaican worker including proper wages and working conditions.
This year’s labour day is being celebrated under the theme ‘Re-Igniting a Nation for Greatness – Protect Our Heritage and Environment’. Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the government is actively pursuing ways to increase the benefits provided to the nation’s workers, adding that unemployment insurance is one such advantage being considered. He is urging unity as the government commits to significant reform of public sector compensation. Noting that despite turbulent times, the country is still heading in the right direction as it continues its economic recovery.
Opposition Leader Mark Golding on the other hand urged for better sanitation practices, encouraging citizens to practise personal responsibility in keeping the environment clean. More details in this report:
