Labour Relations Code Takes Beating In Pandemic

Trade Unions are urging employers to adhere to the Labour Relations Code, following an increase in reports from workers about being unfairly treated.

CVM Live spoke to one Trade Unionist who says the pandemic has seemingly shifted the work world for both employers and employees. However, he says it is not an excuse to exploit labor.

Trade Unions say the labour relations code is taking a beating due to COVID-19

President of the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union, Kavan Gayle says section 11  which speaks about job security and section 19 which talks about communications and consultation are being affected.

Gayle says the pandemic has resulted in a lot of remote work orders.

However, employers are exploiting the loopholes in the law as the flexible work arrangements have no guidelines.
