Land Incident Highlights Need for Lawyers in Purchasing

Nerryssa Hitulah, a struggling mother of three thought she was making the best decision by purchasing a piece of land to build her dream home, thereby eliminating rent.

In an act of desperation, she entered into a sale agreement in February 2020 without knowing if the seller was the registered owner of the title. Nerryssa believed that her best bet was to give the individual the benefit of the doubt.

One attorney is strongly advising citizens embarking on the journey of purchasing a property such as lands, to first seek a lawyer who is well-versed in the area.

Her call comes amid the reality that there are some citizens who are still entering into sale agreements for land without seeing proof of ownership, incurring major expenses and added stress.
