President of the Jamaica Rifle Association (JRA) retired Major John Nelson, on Thursday tried to convince the Joint Select Committee examining the new firearms act, of the value of sports shooting for young boys and girls across the island.
The association asked the committee to consider lowering the age limit to allow the granting of firearm permits for rifles and pistols. The draft legislation proposes that firearm user permits should not be awarded to anyone younger than 16. The bill is likely to significantly impact this group. More details in this report:
