Mob killings have seemingly become commonplace in Jamaican society. It does not take much effort to recall recent instances where citizens sought to take justice into their own hands. Lawyer Oswest Senior-Smith is however condemning the practice as it threatens to interfere with the course of justice and chip away at humanity.

Chieftain Campbell was killed in Mandeville by a mob in early May. The deceased was mistakenly identified as a thief. Senior Smith has been retained to represent the family of Campbell. He is not quick to support the idea that a person’s social class is enough reason to have a mob-killing mentality.
