The Attorney for Brighton/ Little Bay Land Owner, Alimi Banjoko, is urging stakeholders to act now to resettle the residents. He tells CVM LIVE, that the proposed win-win solution suggested by Opposition Leader Mark Golding is not applicable under the Local Amenities Act and evictions will continue. He however maintains that politicians and residential and commercial squatters ought not to stand in the way of the court.
Days ago, the Opposition Leader urged Prime Minister Andrew Holness to use the Local Improvement Community Amenities (LICA) Act to settle the ongoing land dispute. Golding noted that the Act would allow time for mediation and settlement which Banjoko says his client has welcomed for years. However, the lawyer explains the Act does not apply to squatters and insists the Supreme Court has ruled in the matter and the legal owners have contended long enough with opposing forces to get what is rightfully theirs.
