The acquittal of four accused Klansman gang members has been met with mixed reactions. From the perspective of legal representatives of 2 of the freed men, due process was done and justice was served. Freed are Damane Elliston, Rushane Williams, Rivaldo Hylton, and Owen Ormsby. These four men were found not guilty of the counts laid against them during the klansman gang trial.
The prosecution took the position on Thursday that there was insufficient evidence to pursue a case against the accused.
CVM Live was able to secure a comment from the lawyer of Damane Elliston. Elliston was charged with 3 counts; being part of a criminal organization , conspiracy to murder and murder, Attorney Walter Melbourne who represented Elliston, feel that, based on evidence presented, the fair decisive was made. Elliston was released to his family after being detained for 5 years awaiting trial and a verdict. Commenting on the issue of long detainments Melbourne pinpointed areas in the justice system that can expedite the process of justice. One such area of weakness is resources.
The legal team for Owen Ormbsy also welcomes his release. Ormbsy was found not guilty of being part of a criminal organization, 2 counts of conspiracy to murder, and murder.
Rushane Williams faced counts of being part of a criminal organization and conspiracy to murder. Rivaldo Hylton carries those two charges as well as arson.
The Klansman gang trial resumes on Monday.
