Leoda Bradshaw’s lawyer: “There is a lot of misinformation out there”

Leoda Bradshaw’s lawyer, Deborah Martin insists “there is alot of misinformation out there (in the public)” regarding her client’s case.

Responding to the Crown’s indictments for the kidnapping and murder of Toshyna Patterson and her child, Martin accuses the police of sharing information with the public before updating the defendants’ legal team.

Following a media briefing from DCP Fitz Bailey Friday morning, which revealed the charges against her client and co-accused, Martin says “this (the court) is where we discuss matters…” and asks “that the investigating officers not be part of the process of dissemination of information”.

Justice Simone Wolfe-Reece agreed, explaining “now that the matter is before the court, certainly, it is the court’s expectation that anything to do with this matter, will be dealt with in court.”

Leoda Bradshaw and her cousin Roland Balfour made their first appearance in the Home Circuit Court on Friday by way of a Voluntary Bill of Indictment. They are accused of colluding to hire contract killers. They are to return on December 1, 2023.

The men who were allegedly contracted for the execution, Richard Brown and Roshane Miller, made their appearance in the “Home Circuit Court earlier this week” according to the Director of Public Prosecutions, Paula Llewellyn. They are to return later this month.

It is not clear why the accused quartet has been split in two.

A Voluntary Bill of Indictment is the DPP’s move to bypass the committal proceeding held in the parish court and bring the accused directly to the Home Circuit Court.
