Following the new wage agreement between the Jamaica Teachers Association (JTA) and the Ministry of Finance, one stakeholder insists the causes behind the agreement are nuanced.
He notes beyond the issue of wages, teacher migration remains a major concern. Amid the 80 percent of teachers accepting the new wage offer from the government, the President of the Jamaica Association of Principals of Secondary Schools Linvern Wright says the acceptance has created more ambivalence than not. He highlights however, the bigger concern is the fact that more teachers may migrate in the upcoming school year.
Wright also indicates that the actions taken by teachers recently stem deeper than just wages. He says the well-being of most teachers is overbearing. In the meantime, some members of the public tell our news team that the quick response of the government making a new offer is much needed.
