Peoples’ National Party (PNP) Presidential Candidate Lisa Hanna yesterday launched her plan called the “Way Forward” to reunite, reposition and rebrand the Party. The launch was done simultaneously with her nomination. She said it will renew the PNP and put the Party in position to offer sustainable policies to improve the lives of the Jamaican people, especially the poor.
Supporters were clad in orange with their preferred candidate’s face plastered on their shirt. They shouted words of encouragement and chanted political cheers to keep the comrade spirit going.
Lisa Hanna’s leadership eligibility has been questioned in certain quarters, due to her narrow 32 vote win in the September General Election. However, Hanna says she remains steadfast in her approach and knows she has the support of majority of the delegates.
She says she is not planning to lead on her own but with the support of the Jamaican people and says the position of being a nominee for the political party is a very sobering experience for her.
Hanna says her campaign, themed ‘Bring Back The Love’ is aimed at pressing the reset button and uniting the party.
“We’ve had leaders in this movement, Norman Manley, PJ Patterson that have lost seats. We’ve had a situation where our own Michael Manley has come close, in having a marginal victory. The reason why I’m running as well is [because] I know I have the ability with the PNP, with the comrades to go back to reorganize, to listen, to get back on the ground with the people and I said from the get go starting with my own constituency,” Hanna said.
