Former parliamentarian and journalist, Lloyd B Smith is calling on the government to put forward an effective crime plan, noting crime has long spurred out of control.
Smith predicts, if crime is not brought under control, Jamaica will become like Haiti; with gangs seemingly running the country. Concerns are still sky-high among Jamaicans, despite the passing of the new firearm legislation, as many are not convinced it will do anything to quell the soaring crime figures. He says serious crimes are out of control and urges the government to do more to reduce the numbers. He too believes the recently declared gun amnesty will be far from effective, as crime is far too prevalent for criminals to surrender what they believe is their protection.
The former deputy house speaker says he fears Jamaica will soon mirror Haiti, with gangs taking over the country.
