The recent early morning arson attack that left numerous residents homeless in a St. Catherine community has been labeled as a terrorist act by many. Despite this, the victims are being reassured by the Minister of Local Government Desmond McKenzie that assistance is on its way.
Following an arson attack that resulted in the destruction of 11 homes and the displacement of over 40 people in Gregory Park, St. Catherine, the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development has launched a rebuilding initiative to aid these individuals. Minister Desmond McKenzie elaborates on the plan, acknowledging the tense atmosphere as residents remain fearful due to the lingering expectation of retaliation. Minister McKenzie was accompanied by Alando Terrelonge, the Member of Parliament for East Central St. Catherine, during a recent tour of the area. Terrelonge explains that there are concerns about the rebuilding process due to the area’s informal settlements.
