Minister Desmond McKenzie stressed a critical issue in waste management, noting a significant gap between the projected annual requirement of approximately nineteen billion dollars to maintain the country’s cleanliness and the actual disbursement of funds. Out of this projected amount, only around five billion dollars have been allocated to the National Solid Waste Management Authority, resulting in a pending crisis that directly impacts the nation’s garbage collection services.
During the KSAMC Junior Council Mayor Conference, Minister McKenzie highlighted the projected budget for 2023 to address this issue, estimated at twenty-two billion dollars. However, he pointed out a decline in property taxes as a key factor affecting the allocation of funds for waste management. Watch the report:
