The police continue to make strides in ridding the streets of illegal guns. Two high-powered weapons were among four guns and 89 assorted rounds of ammunition seized by the St. Catherine North Police in Linstead.
Two other firearms were also seized in the St. Catherine south division. Head of the St. Catherine north police, Senior Superintendent Howard Chambers is warning the public that the police will not relent in their efforts to restore normalcy to the division. This after the police seized an m16 rifle along with two magazines containing 17 rounds and a 12-gauge shotgun along with five cartridges containing 28 rounds in Linstead.
Two semi-automatic pistols and 44 rounds of ammunition were also seized. SSP chambers, says shortly after midday, a joint police-military team was on patrol in commodore district when a man was seen acting in a suspicious manner. He says the man ran when the team tried to accost him, leaving behind a large duffle bag with the four firearms, 89 assorted rounds of ammunition and a blue baseball cap marked ‘police.’ SSP Chambers says the police have increased their presence in the Linstead sub-division, carrying out more patrols and targeted raids. He’s urging law-abiding citizens to continue to cooperate.
Also on Friday, a team of officers assigned to the St. Catherine south police division seized a Taurus 9 mm pistol and sixteen rounds of ammunition during a joint police/military operation on browns lane, central village. A 9 mm pistol and several rounds of ammunition were also seized in Windsor Heights. Two men were arrested in connection with the find.
