Lead council representing Police Constable Noel Maitland, Christopher Townsend is echoing the frustration of the parish judge who lashed out against the prosecution’s limited presentations of information allowing for a bail hearing. He is adamant their attitude is a reflection of a poor judicial system that benefits no one.
Maitland who has been charged with the murder of missing social media influencer Donna-Lee Donaldson will have to wait until September before being able to apply for bail because of that fact. Attorney Christopher Townsend says he’s dissatisfied with the decision made by the office of the director of public prosecutions to withhold more than 10 statements, that would have aided Maitland’s defense team in applying for his bail.
Townsend says he will never know if they did not provide the statements because of a lack of evidence, but says they jeopardized the only available date set for Maitland’s bail application. He says the issue is bigger than the case against Maitland, because it reflects the downfall of the justice system, for anyone accused.
