A multimillion-dollar drug bust earned much adulation for local crime fighters who disassembled a fishing vessel to find one hundred and forty-one (141) packets of cocaine, with a street value of over three-hundred million dollars. The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) Coast Guards in partnership with police from the Marine Division, have seen three the three people being sought for additional charges in relation to the find. What started out as a mere charge for breaching the 2018 Fisheries Act, quickly ballooned into a massive multi-million-dollar drug bust, leaving the police with a major cocaine investigation on their hands.
Reports are that on April 6, members of the JDF coast guard spotted a vessel with three men aboard. The men identified themselves as fishermen, however, they were unable to display the appropriate documentation to prove their declaration. Subsequently, they were detained and their boat sent to the marine headquarters in Port Royal.
The vessel, which was seized for further investigation showed anomalies, prompting the authorities to not only search inside the boat but also disassemble it. More details below:
