Major General Anderson: Savanna-La-Mar ZOSO Working

Zones of Special Operations are once again being lauded as an effective crime reduction tool by the Commissioner Of Police General Antony Anderson, as he toured the zones that were declared in Savanna-La-Mar on January 16. General Anderson says the areas have been seeing notable changes, to include community development.

Still, he says the police remain focused on taking down gangs and bringing gunmen to justice. After less than one month in operation, Major General Anderson says the Zones Of Special Operations (ZOSO) declared in areas of Savanna-la-mar, Westmoreland are reaping positive results. The zones were declared in Russia, Dalling Street and Desta Street following numerous killings reported since the beginning of the year.

General Anderson says although there’s still much to be done, there’s been notable changes in the areas, which he credits to the zones. He says residents have been receptive to having security forces present in their communities, and are open to plans for rehabilitation. The Commissioner says there are specific and unique strategies for crime reduction in Westmoreland, some of which are centered around an anti-gang effort.

This comes after the announcement of a 6% reduction in murders and a 19% reduction in all major crimes for January 2022 island wide.
