Major Public Sector Energy Efficiency Projects Underway

The drive to reduce the Government of Jamaica electricity spend will be accelerated with the execution of major public sector energy efficiency projects. That is the word from the Minister of Science, Energy and Technology Fayval Williams who says this is valued at over One billion Jamaica dollars.

While Jamaica is on track to being more energy efficient, the minister with responsibility says the government will be putting in more energy efficient fixtures in buildings. Initial work should begin with a lighting upgrade project at 50 public sector facilities. Minister Williams says the demand for energy is growing and lighting is one area which requires significant energy resources.

Adding to this, the Principal Project Investigator at the workshop, Professor Anthony Clayton says the government decision to be more energy efficient now is timely.
