Malahoo Says Changes to The Constitution Coming Soon

Jamaica could soon see changes to its bill of rights. Among these changes are recommendations to transition Jamaica from a constitutional monarchy to a republic.

Minister of Constitutional and Legal Affairs Marlene Malahoo Forte says constitutional changes are coming soon. She says the Joint Select Committee recommends a new constitution be drafted rather than have amendments made over the years. The Minister says the government is serious about the constitutional reform work to be done paving the way for the long-anticipated updated constitution.

Responding to the proposed changes she says the committee has done a comparative assessment of other countries’ approaches to becoming a republic. Watch the report:
