A St. Andrew man was gun down in Papine Square, yesterday, August 6 just metres away from the Papine Police Station in St. Andrew. The Matilda’s Corner and Papine police are investigating the brazen Independent Day attack which has been circulating on social media.
Preliminary information from the police is that the deceased is 39-year-old Papine resident, Dennis Wilson.
Police say explosions were heard sometime around 12:30 pm Independence Day, upon their arrival they found the body with gunshot wounds to the chest.
Videos circulating shortly after the tragedy suggests gunmen took the liberty of ensuring their target was dead before fleeing the scene. In no time the eerie space grew crowded as persons looked and opined.
As the nation celebrates 59 years of Independence it is hoped that crime and violence will not further cripple efforts to nation building. Police caution tape and another bullet-riddled body has left many people fearful and skeptical change will come. Persons in the vicinity told our news team the victim only minutes earlier drove into a nearby gas station to refuel before armed men opened fire hitting him several times.
Meanwhile, police on location sought to assist motorists in the space area of the 3 pm curfew.
It is unclear the motive for the killing.
