Mandeville Recognizes World Food Safety Day

The Southern Regional Health Authority made it their mission to spread awareness on the topic of food safety on World Food Safety Day, June 7. A parade was organized in the Mandeville square to educate citizens about proper food safety measures. The United Nations declared the fourth global world food safety day recognized on Tuesday June 7. Under the theme “Safer Food, Better Health”, the day was used to draw attention and mobilize action to prevent, detect and manage food borne risks and improve human health. In the spirit of this initiative,  a road tour and parade was held in the Mandeville square to spread awareness on how food safety can be acquired, and how to detect breaches.

Manager of the Southern Regional Health Authority, Michael Bent, says the 4 thousand food establishments that are registered in the parishes of Clarendon, Manchester and St. Elizabeth are constantly monitored to ensure food safety for the public. Regional Food Safety Coordinator, Dahlia Plunkett, says the parade was directed at spreading awareness specifically among citizens who are unclear about what obstructs food safety.
