A manhunt has been launched for eight prisoners who escaped from the Black River lockup in St. Elizabeth on Monday morning. The public is being urged to be vigilant of their surroundings and report any suspicious individuals in their community, as the men are said to be possibly armed and dangerous. Details of how the men managed to break free are still to emerge. Fear has crept into the consciousness of residents as among the escapees are alleged rapists and murderers. In the meantime, the St. Elizabeth police have released the names of the men on the run.
They are:
Oral Cole, Richard Brown, and Alrick Hutchinson were held for robbery. Dewar Williams in lock up for illegal possession of firearm and shooting with intent. Kenneth Stewart also held for illegal possession of a firearm along with murder. Anward Hines and Javaughn Simms both held for murder, while Dean Simpson was locked up for rape and robbery. The police are reminding citizens it is an offence to harbor a fugitive. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of these men are being urged to contact 119 or the nearest police station.
