Former Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Sovereign State of Accompong, Alex Moore Minott says the celebration marking the 285 years of freedom for the Maroons, was well received on Friday as maroons gathered for the holy pilgrimage to the cockpit country. Noting the civics ceremony was also well attended, with several prominent speakers who acknowledged the plight of the maroons.
Moore Minott highlights the presence and impact of the Leader of the Opposition, Mark Golding’s speech on the importance of unity between maroons and the Jamaican space. He says another highlight of the event was the reading of the proclamation from the United States Congress, which formally recognized the maroons. Noting the historic turnout from Jamaicans, he reveled in the feelings of community with those who joined in the celebrations
