Mask Cost Expected To Skyrocket For 2021 – The waiver applied to personal protective equipment in light of the pandemic has not been extended to this year, causing importers to second guess paying the  20% duty and G.C.T for these essential items.  

Clive coke, president of the customs brokers and Freight Forwarders Association of Jamaica says if the duty and GCT imposed on PPE’s remain clearing the new batch of safety gear will attract a higher cost.

Importers have reportedly been increasingly reluctant to clear containers with these essential items, leaving millions of dollars worth of safety masks at the ports.
