Maternal Death: The Noel Holmes Hospital in Lucea, Hanover is being criticized after a maternal visit to the facility quickly turned into the maternal death of Sakile Stewart and her unborn baby.
The Ministry of Health and Wellness has yet to respond to claims that negligence on the part of the staff at the hospital allegedly resulted in the death of Stewart and her child on Monday. Stewart had an expectant due date of October 12.
Stewart’s family is calling for an investigation into the matter after a meeting with hospital staff left them more confused than before.
CVM LIVE reached out to the hospital on Friday and was told that a statement would be sent but did not receive any up until news time at 7:30.
We also reached out to the State Minister in the Ministry Of Health with responsibility for Maternal Health, Juliette Cuthbert Flynn, and was told that she had not fully been briefed.
Details revealed that Sakile Stewart was admitted to the hospital on Thursday, September 24 following a routine visit and that the cause for this was that she had a high blood pressure.
According to her brother, she was given papers to sign for induced labour on Monday. The family received the prescription from the hospital to purchase medication but got a surprising call later that afternoon that Smith and her child had died.
Since news of the deaths, there have been several reports of lack of specialized staff at the facility and deplorable infrastructure. The Noel Holmes Hospital is the public hospital for Hanover.
