Matthew Samuda: Jamaica Must Act Regarding Climate Change

Minister without portfolio for Economic Growth and Job Creation Matthew Samuda says Jamaica already has the tools to tackle climate change and must act accordingly.

He was touring a water preservation facility in St. Catherine recently. Samuda, while touring the artificial recharge facility in St. Catherine recently, along with environmentalists, said the facility is a reflection of a strong and integrated water sector which benefits from the National Irrigation Commission NIC, along with other water suppliers.

He says the catchment facility is important as water conservation efforts in Jamaica become more prevalent. Noting that climate change has forced countries to be more cognizant of their natural resources. Samuda also noted that Jamaica has an abundance of land with rich soil for constructing catchment facilities and farming, however he adds given the knowledge on how to address droughts, Jamaica must act accordingly.

1-point 07 billion was invested by the National Water Commission to construct this facility.

In the meantime, Peter Clarke, Managing Director of the Water Resources Authority outlined how the operations of the water system is streamlined.
