May Pen Mayor Says He Will Be First to Resign If Negotiations Are Sour

Mayor of May Pen Winston Maraj says there have been ongoing negotiations with the Minister of Finance Dr Nigel Clarke as it relates to compensation package for councillors. He says like every other sector he has been waiting, notwithstanding the noted fact that they were the last group to be addressed.

President of the Association of Local Government Authorities of Jamaica (ALGAJ), Winston Maragh says so far, they have lost about a dozen of the two hundred and twenty-nine councillors and mayors. He says in respect of the compensation package review by the government he remembers that politicians were the last on the list to be settled which would include councilors. The Mayor who shares and believes in the view that councillors work extremely hard, says despite members calling for his resignation, he would be the first to resign as president of ALGAJ if compensation expectations are not met.
