Amid repeated delays in the Local Government Elections by the governing Jamaica Labor Party (JLP), there have been concerns regarding the reasons given for the postponement. However, despite the scrutiny from the Opposition, the JLP members remain in support of the decision. The postponement of the Local Government Elections is not a sign of the JLP’s failure to prepare, nor lack of readiness.
The Mayor of Kingston Delroy Williams says he is confident, particularly in the work he has done across the city of Kingston, to solidify his place in the hearts of those he represents. Though he says he wishes the election was not postponed, he remains in agreement with the GOJ’s reasoning behind said delays, stating their desire to see the city of Portmore become a parish before the election can be held.
