The Local Government and Rural Development municipal social assistance programme is set to benefit one south St. Andrew resident is getting a new home after two months of waiting. On Wednesday, October 20, the Government officials broke ground on-site where her new home is to be built.
Homeowner Tashana Maleth beamed as the first signs of progress on her home took place on Wednesday, October 20, during a groundbreaking ceremony on Ashley Road in Kingston. As part of the municipal social assistance project, Tashana was selected to be a beneficiary. Her dilapidated home will be made into a concrete structure, better resistant against natural disasters according to Tashana.
Member of Parliament for the area, Angella Brown- Burke shares how pleased she is to have this project happen in southwest St. Andrew. The MP noted that social housing coming through the local authority has been a conversation for years. Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Desmond-Mckenzie shared how tax dollars are being put to use for the project.
The next targeted area in the corporate area will be south St. Andrew, followed by central Kingston then south St. James, and western Westmoreland.
