McKenzie Condemns Improper Garbage Disposal by Citizens

In his contribution to the sectoral debate in parliament on Wednesday, Local Government And Rural Development Minister, Desmond McKenzie, shared his frustration on the improper disposal of solid waste in the country.

He asserts that citizens must have some form of civil pride, in taking better care of the country. Minister Desmond McKenzie is condemning the act of improper solid waste disposal by citizens, following numerous criticism and complaints on the national solid waste management authority, backlog in garbage collection.

Minister McKenzie says as the NSWMA steadily overcomes operational challenges; its strong efforts are being undermined by selfish individuals and communities. He didn’t mince words in dismissing the idea that dumping garbage in gullies and drains will generate more jobs. Meanwhile, McKenzie says it is not just the disposal of garbage that is creating a problem for the country, but developers and used car dealers are crippling access to roads and walkways.

He says while the government supports development, order must be maintained. McKenzie says the anti-litter and building laws are high on the government’s agenda, noting that new measures will be put in place in short order.
