Speaking at the St. Ann Agricultural, Industrial Food Show on Thursday, Agriculture Minister, Pearnel Charles Jr, commended the farmers for their productive service, while encouraging Jamaicans to produce more to build food security.
The government recently announced strategies for the grow smart, eat smart to ramp up Jamaica’s production. Agriculture minister, Pearnel Charles Jr, says the ministry is committed to supporting all Jamaican farmers, as the country prepares for various challenges spurred on by the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The government continues to endorse production, to secure the nation’s food security and build resilience. Minister Charles says if Jamaica is producing more, farmers must have accessibility. The government will therefore be allocating 6-hundred and 70 million dollars, towards the rehabilitation of farm roads across the country.
He also expounded on plans to cushion the cost of fertilizers. Meanwhile, the agriculture minister is warning persons to refrain from the act of praedial larceny. Minister Charles is encouraging citizens to utilize the land to increase production and productivity.
