Health Minister, Dr Christopher Tufton has announced there’s no trace of the Delta variant of COVID-19 in Jamaica. The Minister told the Parliament the variant is yet to be detected locally.
Minister Tufton says the Ministry has received the results of 60 of the 100 samples sent abroad to test if the Delta variant is present in Jamaica.
He however, implores Jamaicans to not get complacent because it is only a matter of time before the variant possibly make its way to our island since it is now the dominant strain in some countries.
The Minister also responded to questions posed by the Opposition Spokesman on Health and Wellness Dr. Morais Guy, as it relates to the medical management of the coronavirus and the cause of the seeming increase in COVID-19 deaths.
The Health Minister stated that the increase may be linked to previous covid cases that were under investigation and the practice of some covid patients to take a “wait- and – see” approach that in some instances lead to their death.
