Mixed Reaction to Calls for Early Curfew

There has been mixed reactions from medical personnel and the general public regarding recent calls from some groups, for a roll back of the Government’s New Year’s 1am curfew.

In recent reports, president of the medical association of Jamaica Dr. Brian James has called for a roll back of the 1am curfew for New Year’s Eve. He said the curfew, if not reversed is likely to cause large gatherings, which is ideal for COVID-19 spread

The suggestion has sparked conversation among Jamaicans. Many believe the 1am curfew for Christmas Eve is indeed a stretch, and should return to 10 pm, or even earlier.

On the contrary, others wish for the curfew to be discontinued. In the days since end of year holidays began and the easing of the curfew hours, there has been a return to triple digit infections and double digit positivity rates.
