Chieftin Campbell, the man who was attacked by a mob in Manchester over a month ago, was laid to rest. Family members, friends and well-wishers were out in their numbers to pay their final respects. It was a sorrowful day for the family and friends of Chieftin Campbell, who came to pay their final respects on Saturday.
Campbell was a member of the Victoria Town Primary and Infant School Board and served for many years. Representatives of the school and family members remember him fondly. In early May, Mr. Campbell was attacked by a mob in the town of Mandeville a week before he was slated to get married. He later died at hospital following blunt force trauma.
Campbell’s family along with residents of Victoria Town staged a protest demanding justice for his death. According to police reports he accused of stealing money, however the police later confirmed it was a case of mistaken identity.
A taxi operator was apprehended and charged for the murder of Campbell.
