Mobile Medical Care Boosts Access to Health Care

As several communities grapple with financial strain, access to medical care gets increasingly difficult. The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW), in partnership with the Jamaican Network of Seropositive, hosted a vaccination blitz and health fair in the community of Stand Pipe, St. Andrew. The success of this initiative has motivated the continuation of the project, in other communities across the island.

The event sought to educate residents and neighboring citizens about HIV awareness, prevention, treatment, and care. 

Executive director of the Jamaican Network of Seropositives, Jumoke Patrick, praises the mobile medical care for bringing health care to citizens.   He says they intend to target marginalized communities, that struggle to get these resources.

Meanwhile, Councillor for the Monroe Division Andrew Bellamy says the event surpassed their expected target, and they are motivated to continue this initiative in other communities. 

Residents describe the mobile drive as convenient and are motivating others to participate. Watch the report below:
