Taking the vaccine to people is what the Health Ministry is doing with its mobile vaccination unit. Operating similar to blitz sites the unit administers the available vaccines to those interested.
Over 100 people took their jab at the Ministry of Health and Wellness mobile vaccination unit popped up in New Kingston on Friday, September 17. The unit aims to give greater access to vaccines by going into high-density areas. AstraZeneca and Johnson and Johnson were being offered on-site.
Permanent Secretary for the Ministry, Dunstan Bryan explained the logistics of a mobile setup, he noted that similar to a physical vaccination site, the mobile unit that was on location has the five different processes of the vaccination site. Around 12 noon over 100 people were already vaccinated. Some heard about the bus from colleagues while others made the decision to get vaccinated on the spot.
Since the crowd at the pop-up site is smaller persons were able to get through faster. Each of the two buses accommodates 5 persons at a time with consideration for social distancing. The bus made its first stop in waterloo St. Andrew on Saturday, September 11.
